Get in Touch

Hey there,

I am Satanick Mukhuty, and this website is a small attempt to share my passion for chess composition — a fascination that took hold back in 2017-18 and has refused to let go since.

I read every message, and I always feel glad when an interesting chess position leads to a conversation!

ChessBase India — The Uncommon Patron

If you are an Indian with even a passing interest in chess, you would almost certainly know ChessBase India. Led by Sagar Shah and Amruta Mokal, ChessBase India has been a trailblazer in the field of chess promotion and journalism, covering developments in the sport from the grassroots to the very highest level.

I have been fortunate to be associated with this wonderful company since 2019, and over the years I have come to know both Sagar and Amruta rather well. They love chess simply, without pride or pretence, and are dedicated to creating a space of abundance around them where one can just be. There is no authority, never any demand to prove one’s worth; people are free to do, create, contribute, or not, as they wish.

Perhaps, in the kind of productivity- and profit-obsessed world we inhabit today, this sounds quixotic, even too good to be true. But for me, it is clear that initiatives such as HelpChess, Temple of Chess, and the Big Chess Camps are all realisations of this philosophy — and that is but a begrudging admission from the thorough cynic and nihilist that I am.

Sagar Shah and Satanick, somewhere in Mumbai.

As always, Sagar bhai was immediately supportive when I told him about this little enterprise of mine, despite my long and rather embarrassing history of starting things and not seeing them through. Whether ChessKala itself will fare any better, I cannot pretend to know. But as I write these words, I can say with complete honesty that even the idea for such a website could never have been conceived without everything I found at ChessBase India — the connections, the mentorship, and the opportunities.
