Chess composition remains one of the most beautiful and intellectually rewarding corners of the chess world. Yet for many, it can seem abstruse and forbidding. It is often perceived as a domain inhabited by specialists and cloaked in obscure terminology that appears to have little connection to practical play. The takeaway from almost every solving competition is the same: many enthusiasts are eager to solve, but relatively few have had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of solving problems and studies, or the techniques that experienced solvers employ to break down seemingly complex positions quickly and effectively. Even seasoned players with little or no prior exposure to this field are sometimes unsure how to write the solution to a mate-in-3 or what constitutes the main line of a study. In many cases, they are unable to attempt a question simply because they do not know what they are expected to look for. The difficulty is further compounded by the fact that solvers must also contend with two genres unfamiliar to much of the playing world: the helpmate and the selfmate.
It is precisely to address this gap that we have launched Inside the Solver’s Mind. Designed for players with little prior exposure to chess composition, this online programme aims to demystify the solving process and provide participants with the tools needed to approach problems and studies with greater understanding and confidence. Through a series of carefully structured lessons, solvers will learn how to identify key clues in a position, recognise recurring themes, and apply practical techniques used by experienced competitors. The objective is not merely to improve solving performance, but to deepen appreciation of the ideas, artistry, and logic that lie at the heart of chess composition.
Entry Fee & Registration
For each webinar, we have kept a nominal fee of ₹50. However, this fee is entirely waivable. Our aim is to share the joy of solving chess problems and studies with as many people as possible.

After each session, participants receive a PDF containing all the material discussed, together with additional exercises to test and reinforce their understanding. Are These Sessions For You?
A brief disclaimer is in order: these sessions are not intended as a means of improving your Elo rating. The topics and ideas we discuss in these webinars may help you cultivate a deeper appreciation of chess as a whole, perhaps in much the same way that weight-lifting can benefit a marathon runner. Solving, however, is an activity distinct from playing, and the skills developed in one do not always translate directly to the other.
If there is one reason to join these sessions, it is a love of intellectual challenge and a curiosity about the rich world of chess composition. That said, for those interested in competing in solving events, these sessions may help build the foundations needed to approach such contests with more poise.
Are These Sessions Suitable for Complete Beginners?
In a word: no. Chess solving does require a reasonable familiarity with tactical ideas. If you are very new to chess and are still learning the basic tactical motifs, you may find these sessions difficult to follow and enjoy.
